How laser anti-ageing skin treatment works

For years patients have sought treatment through surgery, dermabrasion, chemical peels and recently through CO2 lasers for resurfacing. The process involves removing the surface of old , damaged skin causing the deeper layers of skin to grow a new epidermis with increased amounts of collagen underneath, and giving the skin an improvement in colour, texture, improvement of wrinkles, acne scars and superficial growths and a more youthful appearance. Those methods are still in use today but they have their drawbacks.

How does Erbium Laser work so well for anti-ageing skin rejuvenation?

Erbium anti-ageing and rejuvenation lasers produce energy in the mid infrared invisible light spectrum which better absorbs water in the skin that the harsher cO2 laser alternative. This has several advantages: since this laser energy is so well absorbed, it instantly vaporizes skin and tissue so precisely that surrounding skin is hardly affected. In other words you could say this is a "cold laser" because it does not burn the skin. Because of this, the pain and side effects have been greatly reduced. The healing process lasts one or two weeks so the procedure is suitable for relatively young and working persons who cannot afford a lot of down time.

Why should I choose Erbium laser treatment?

As a potential patient you should be aware, there is a debate among skin laser surgeons regarding the relative merits of two very different technologies to treat skin ageing and rejuvenation treatment. The CO2 laser system claim their device is more effective for aged patients with severe sun damage and that CO2 will cause contraction of collagen fibres. On the opposite side of the debate, it is said that final results will be similar in expert hands but with a lower risk of complications for with ERBIUM laser patients. Many experts find ERBIUM laser superior for delicate skin sculpting because its wavelength allows a very specific ablation of this skin component. (Acne scars for example). Personally, I have more than ten years' experience with the Erbium laser system and I am sincerely convinced that it has the highest ratio of benefits to potential side effects.

Cosmetic laser treatments reverse the signs of ageing and sun-damaged skin by stimulating collagen production and promoting tissue tightening through tissue coagulation.

Anti-aging skin rejuvenation treatment should cause only minimal discomfort. Any redness, swelling or puffiness that occurs can be gone within a few days (if not a few hours).

Results vary with each case. Patients may require anywhere from 2 - 6 treatments to achieve desired results. Each session will last from 15 to 30 minutes.

Just like the aging process itself, this varies from person to person. However, if you take steps to protect and preserve your freshly rejuvenated skin-such as using SPF sunscreen, facial cleansers and creams-the results will last longer.
